Learn to draw the figure, or practice your skills if you are already proficient—using pastels! This class systematically develops a set of approaches to figure drawing and combines it with instruction on basic pastel techniques. We will be drawing from breathtaking figurative paintings, drawings and sculpture projected onto a large screen. Brief presentations on anatomy and art history provide context, inspiration and instruction on how the old (and new) masters solved problems. Warm up with quick gestures, train with short “poses” and settle into some longer studies with no less than the greatest figurative works every made, with instruction tailored to where you are in your study.
