"A poem begins in delight and ends in wisdom.” -Robert Frost
Perhaps it is the rich diversity of American voices that has elevated its poetry to the highest ranks of world literature. This quarter we focus our study on that American voice, starting 100 years ago with the much-loved and celebrated Robert Frost, continuing on through the 20th century into the present, with the amazing work of Lucille Clifton, Li-Young Lee, and Ada Limon. Since all poems are distributed, read, and discussed in class, this study welcomes those new to poetry alongside lifelong devotees.
