ID : 4084
« back to classes page

Dive into oil painting! This class will cover the fundamentals of painting: color, composition, palette and mixing, as well as developing an understanding of properties unique to oil paints. We will learn about greyscale and about using additive and subtractive techniques in painting. Students will complete three paintings over the course of the seven week class. Slide presentations of other painters’ work will supplement the practical studio work we will do in class. This class involves some technical instruction, but students furthering their own artistic inquiry and developing their own voice will be encouraged and applauded.Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course and can expect to spend an additional $80–$100 on these materials.

Student Work: “Contentment”, oil on canvas, by Dennis Bentley.

Student Testimonials:

"I learned a lot about values in class and how to use specific techniques for shading. Previously, I had been afraid of ruining my paintings by adding darks. Thank you, Alexandra!!! I’m really happy with my development!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed Alexandra’s painting class every step of the way. She is always constructive and encouraging and what I liked best is that she demonstrates for you the process she goes through from start to finish by example.  Her class was thoughtful, friendly and instructive, ultimately helping each one of us try to paint to the best of our ability, no matter what skill level we began with."
