Have you ever wanted work directly from nature rather than painting from landscape photographs in the studio?
This class is for you! Spend one morning every week for seven weeks painting on the brand new, sublime organic garden at the Indian Valley Campus of College of Marin. We will learn painting fundamentals, value, color mixing and perspective, and apply these basics to capturing the landscape around us. We will spend one lesson learning about and practicing mixing greens. Through exercises, demos and completing two or three paintings on their own, students will come away with a deeper understanding of what it means to paint in the outdoors. Participants must have access to a plein air easel and painting kit they may transport easily on site. Closed-toed, comfortable shoes and sturdy pants are also required for spending time on the farm. This class is appropriate for those new to painting as well as more experienced painters, and painters may work in oils, acrylic or gouache paints (should be able to mix and blend the paint). Students must purchase their own art supplies for this course and can expect to spend an additional $80–$100 on these materials. A materials list will be distributed by email one week prior to the first class meeting.
